Handmade at Henk van de Meene’s Dutch West Coast atelier and consisting of 500 parts, the HENK, which stands just over 21 inches high by 15.75 inches wide and 7.87 inches deep, is an object of wonder. A carry-on size that complies with International Air Transport Association (IATA) specifications, its design makes it particularly useful for short business or weekend trips. Its shock-absorbing, retractable titanium wheels slip silently from the bottom of the case and sit at an angle to the floor that makes the suitcase seem to float when pulled. Two fingers placed on its telescopic handle are sufficient to guide the HENK through any airport’s meandering corridors, and side wheels come into play when the case is turned sideways, allowing easy passage up and down a plane’s narrow aisles. In addition to being so efficiently designed, the HENK is also customizable. Both its exterior and interior can be coordinated to match your traveling outfit, your car or your favorite holiday setting. The dress boy atop the 40.47-inch telescopic handle is perfect for hanging one’s jacket. The case has an easily removable wall to keep business and personal items separate. As of 2010, the company is offering a model made from the delicate skin of the Australian-bred, non-endangered, saltwater crocodile. Every HENK case has a central locking system customized with its owner’s personal code and serial number. Finding the ideal accessory can sometimes feel like a hunt, especially when lightweight is the key word. Well, this fall, Maison Takuya provides a Wild Alligator SofTote as part of its latest collection.

Designer and creative tour de force of the fashion house, Francois Russo, offers a more manageable option for the contemporary man. The apparent appeal of airiness inspired his creation. He explains, “when I designed this model my obsession was to make a very light bag.” Already owning a reputable “designer library” of totes, Russo believed that introducing another heavy bag to the market would be a drawback.

Made exclusively from alligator skins, his latest work does not have lining as such a feature would considerably increase the bag’s weight. The SofTote requires two complete adult alligators, each over three meters long and forty years old. “It is the first time to my knowledge that a bag has been made in full alligator without lining,” says Russo. Before beginning the project, Russo carefully studied the quality of each alligator skin to insure that they would suit his striking design, both inside and out. After which, the skins were tanned in France.

Exceptional both from a design perspective and due to the skins used to develop it, Russo strongly believes, “if you want a precious bag that you can carry wherever you go, you do not want, in my view, to carry the lining as well.“

The Wild Alligator SofTote is available as a special order and is priced at $27,000. Allow approximately six weeks for delivery.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can now add jewelry designers to their long list of accomplishments. The philanthropic couple created an $11,000 pair of black diamond, emerald and 18k white gold serpent cufflinks for the luxury goods house, Asprey.

The proceeds from the sales will benefit the Education Partnership For Children of Conflict (EPCC), which was co-founded by Jolie. The foundation was organized to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters. Jolie and Pitt are ardent devotees to charity and these cufflinks will not only make a style statement but it will also show your philanthropic side.

Jolie and Pitt created this collection of jewelry, called the Protector collection, which only offered women and children’s designer jewelry until the couple decided to expand it to include men. The cufflinks are the first item in the line available to men. They are dazzling and classy without being ostentatious. They are limited edition fine jewels and each piece is handcrafted at Asprey’s flagship London store in New Bond Street. These cufflinks will last a lifetime and are perfect in conjunction with the woman’s line. The cuff links match the women and children’s collection, which include serpent rings, earrings and a pendant. There are also birth certificate holders, spoons and bowls available with the serpent emblem. The Jolie-Pitts did not comment on the cufflinks except to endorse their prized charity.

Aside from manufacturing impeccable and high-end clothing for adults, Gucci has turned its focus on the next generation. While in Singapore, Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci, announced the upcoming release of their children’s line. The line is to be launched in Italy in June.

After its launch, the line will branch out and be made available in about 40 various stores worldwide. Although Gucci has not released further information regarding the upcoming line for elite children, (as to build suspense for its June launch,) it would seem that Gucci’s attention towards children goes beyond merely clothes.

During Frida Gianinni’s visit to Singapore, where she announced the upcoming children’s line, Gianinni celebrated the opening of Gucci’s Paragon Flagship as well as being honored by having an orchid named after her. The Paravanda Frida Orchid served as her inspiration in the design of a limited-edition Gucci Bag, The Paravanda Frida Bag, in which all proceeds went to a children’s charity. “Mainly I Love Kids” (MILK) children’s charity received 100% of the profits Gucci made from the 88 exclusive Paravanda Frida Bags, which sold out within a month.

In the recent past and future months, it appears that Gucci has and will be celebrating children. While supporting children who have been less fortunate with the philanthropic Paravanda Frida Bag, and in the process of creating a brand new elite child’s clothing line, young people from across the globe will be benefiting from Gucci’s ongoing luxurious designs.

For the first time in their rich 80 year history, FIFA will release official World Cup Final rings. Columbian jeweler, Enrique Vasquez has agreed – after four years of convincing – to create 2,010 official rings for the international tournament.

Expertly handcrafted designs of soccer balls, stadiums, and flags of the 32 participating countries will adorn each bespoke ring. The personalized ring will cost between $2,500 and $250,000, as opposed to the 1,970 rings priced specifically at $2,500, which are constructed from gold, silver, and four emeralds.

Among the entire collection, Vasquez will donate one platinum ring to FIFA and one of the gold rings will be donated towards UNICEF, to commemorate their outstanding philanthropic achievements in helping disadvantaged children. In addition, FIFA will grant the World Cup’s Most Valuable Player with a specially crafted gold ring.
